Lauri Ruth

MS/LPC – Play Therapist

816-246-4465 ext 4

Lauri Ruth is a Licensed Professional Counselor who specializes in Play Therapy. She has extensive experience working with children, adolescents and their families.

Lauri earned her undergraduate degree in Education from Central Missouri State University (now UCM), and began her career as a junior high mathematics teacher. After the birth of her daughters, Lauri spent seven years as a stay-at-home mom and childcare provider. When her children entered school, she returned to the university for her master’s degree in counseling. While earning her graduate degree, Lauri worked several part-time jobs; preschool teacher, assistant director at a daycare facility and paraprofessional at the high school level for Ozanam Home for Boys and Girls. After receiving her graduate degree, Lauri spent one year as an Elementary In-School Suspension teacher for Della Lamb Charter School, three years as a Middle School Counselor in Higginsville, MO, and four years as the Teacher on the Adolescent Unit of Research Psychiatric Center.

Lauri has been married thirty three years. She and her husband have three daughters, three son-in-laws, three granddaughters and two grandsons. Lauri’s favorite past-time is spending time with her family. Lauri works evenings and weekends so she can babysit her grandchildren during the day.

Lauri is passionate about working with children and families to achieve a mentally healthy living environment within the home. Lauri would say her therapeutic style is Family Systems based with an emphasis on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy when working with Adolescents. For children ages three-twelve, Lauri utilizes Play Therapy as the primary mode of treatment. For more information about Play Therapy see
